For future paramedics or EMTs in the state of Hawaii, only one school offers training.

Kapi’olani Community College is Hawaii’s the only public 2-year college that offers EMT & Paramedic training programs However you can find EMT courses provided by other campuses. You can ean a certificate and associate’s degree through the training program. If you want to become a paramedic in the state of Hawaii, Kapi’olani Community College  offers a few different options to do so.

A paramedic training programs will take 2 years to complete. You will have completed around 1.500 training hours. An internship at a medical providing clinic or fire department. Done ambulance runs and clinical rotations.

In order to become certified and licensed, you fill out and submit the EMT and Paramedic license application  and provide the required fees. If you are moving from another state to Hawaii, you will also need to fill the mentioned form out + additional forms.

A paramedic and emt candidate must be Certified through the NREMT exam. The NREMT exam consist of a written and practical exam.

 

Requirements for EMT Basic Training

You must be at least 18 years old. Pass a criminal background check and finished High School.

EMT Basic candidates are required to pass the NREMT EMT Basic exam.
You can register online at the NREMT website. The NREMT exam is generally held at Maui, Hilo and Oahu.

 

Requirements for EMT Intermediate Training

You must have completed the EMT basic training program.

Candidates must pass the NREMT EMT-Intermediate exam.
The exam can be found mostly on Maui, Hilo and Oahu.

 

Requirements for EMT Paramedic Training


You must have completed the EMT-basic program. Possess a current CPR-card.

The candidate must pass and complate the NREMT EMT-Paremedic exams.
You can register  at the NREMT and are held at Maui, Oahu and Hilo.

After passing The NREMT exam and you’ve become certified and licensed Paramedic. Re-certification is required for paramedics every 2 years. In addition you need to attend 21 hours of training, prior to applying for re-certification. However re-doing the nremt exam is not required for re-certification.
