In order to become a paramedic in the state of Iowa. One must complete a paramedic training program and pass the NREMT exam to become certified and licensed. You can find paramedic training programs being offered at Des Moines Area Community College and Kirkwood Community College.
You are required to have completed lower level EMT training courses such as the EMT-basic, before you can enrol in a paramedic training program. As a Paramedic you can expect to have to complete around 1,010 hours of training.
After the completion of the training program. You are required to pass the NREMT exam which consist of two parts, one written and one practical.
There are around 19 EMS training programs in Iowa which are approved programs by the state of Iowa. On basis that the programs will provide the necessary training and knowledge in order to become an EMT or Paramedic in the state of Iowa.
