The NREMT Exam

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or NREMT was founded in 1970 and is a certification agency covering emergency medical technicians or pre-hosipital medical care providers.

They are most known for their exams which are used to nationally license and certify EMTs and Paramedics. The majority of states uses the NREMT to certify all levels of emts, such as the EMT-basic, EMT-intermediate and EMT-paramedic. With paramedics some states require you to fulfil additional certifications.

The Examination

The NREMT exam is administered by officially approved facilities. The exams are handed out by an approved personal only. The NREMT exam consist of 2 parts.

Part 1- is known as the written exam. However that is rather misleading, since the exam is computer based exam (CAT). The candidate will be required to answer a multiple choice question one by one.

Each question will adapt to the candidate’s answers, therefore making no exam identical to each other. You may expect up yo 80-150 questions depending on how you perform. The exam will end arrubtly once it has determined if the canditate has either passed or failed.

Part 2 - is a practical exam. The candidate will be tested on how they react and respond to emergency scenarios, based on real-life scenarios.

The NREMT exam is very similar to the state approved EMT exams used during the completion of a EMT or Paramedic training program. A minority of states also uses their own exams to certify and license EMTs, those exams are also similar to the NREMT but with slight differences such as a written exam used with a pen and paper.

In order to participate in the NREMT exam, candidates must visit the official website and apply. There are usually held 2 exams every month.
